Peninsula College student Beatriz Giraldo is organizing a salsa dance party at the Peninsula College Longhouse for Cinco de Mayo.  Beatriz and other students will play live music for about half an hour, followed by DJ'd music.  All area salsa dancers (are invited to attend.

Janam (formerly Black Olive Babes) plays an exciting, eclectic mix of Balkan, Romani, Turkish, Sephardic, American roots and original music. Sultry rhythms and soul-stirring melodies that will transport you from the shores of the Black Sea to the foothills of the Appalachians. Founded by longtime Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble singer Juliana Graffagna, Janam features some of the Bay Area’s most innovative interpreters of Southern Balkan and Middle Eastern traditional music..

Balkan Cabaret brings the passion and poetry of traditional ballads and favorite old standards from the cafes and cabarets of Belgrade, Sofia and Sarajevo, and other Balkan cities. Their performance spans Sevdalinka ballads from Bosnis and Hercogovina, old town Starogradski tunes from Bulgaria, and favorites of many generations from Croatia, Serbia. Featuring vocalist Mary Sherhart.

This is the monthly second Sunday salsa dance.

Alan Andree and Judy Rudolph will teach a hour long beginning salsa lesson at 5:30PM.

A DJ dance starts at 6:30PM with Bachata, Merengue and salsa music. At 7:00PM Alan and Judy will teach Merengue and there will be a mixer.

Dancing from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.  Admission for the classes and DJ'd dance is only $5 - admission for non-dancers is free.
