Elks Lodge #317
555 Otto Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368

Energetic and inspired blues will welcome listeners and dancers to the Port Townsend Elks Lodge on Friday March 18 with the performance of Brian Lee & the Orbiters. This dance, sponsored by Olympic  Peninsula Dance, is open to all.

The Orbiters take their name from a repertoire that sweeps a wide orbit through the blues universe--especially Chicago, Texas, and West Coast styles.  Their tunes are a blend of originals and favorites from the rich blues tradition.  They also take excursions into country blues and jazz, all within their unique sound.

Founder Brian Lee, who has been playing blues music for more than a decade, leads the band with smooth, soulful vocals.  He also contributes instrumental variety on slide guitar, blues harp, and guitar, and is the author of many of the band's original tunes.

Washington Blues Society "Best of the Blues" award-winner Tim Sherman is a master of the blues guitar, while Hank Yanda on bass and Conrad Ormsby on drums propel the band with incredible energy and finesse. Yanda also contributes vocals.

The band has been nominated by the Washington Blues Society for "Best Band" in 2008 and 2003, as well as for "Best Recording" in 2006.  Sherman also won the Blues Society award for "Best Electric Guitarist" in 2006 and 2002.

The Orbiters' repertoire emphasizes original tunes and covers of songs by such artists as James Brown, Ike Turner, B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughn. On Friday, March 18 at the Port Townsend Elks those rhythms and the lively artistry of these musicians will inspire a true orbiter lift-off for dancers, and listeners too.

There will be a free (with admission) dance lesson in "Double Time Swing" with Janice Ekland and Walter Dill at 7:00 pm. There will also be a paid lesson in "Blues/Onestep" from 6:00 - 7:00 pm for $10. Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. No partner or registration is necessary.

This is a smoke-free dance open to all ages.

Admission: Adults $15; 12 and under $7; after 10:00pm, Adults $7.
