Elks Lodge #317
555 Otto Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368

Hot Swing is the theme for the third Friday in February, February 18th, at the Port Townsend Elks when Olympic Penninsula Dance features Buz Whiteley Big Band. The Whiteley band, which specializes in tunes from the 20's,30's,40's & 50's, is strongly influenced by the music of Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Stan Kenton and Duke Ellington. The band's favorite’s songs include Miller's "In the Mood," Dorsey's "Boogie Woogie," and Artie Shaw's "Begin the Beguine."  The Whiteley band truly is a big one, 20 members, including five saxophones, four trombones and three vocalists.

Based in the Kitsap Peninsula, The Buz Whiteley Band is a popular draw for dancers at the Parker Ballroom South, Bremerton Convention Center and the Kitsap Mall. "A good audience always perks things up," says Whiteley, telling how the band enjoys seeing dancers fill the floor for their sweet sound of swing

The dance is open to all. Dancers and listeners are encouraged to come dressed in Hawaiian shirts, leis, or anything that suits the Hot Swing theme.

There will be a free (with admission) dance lesson at 7:00 p.m. of freestyle Foxtrot taught by Sonya Hickey and Steve Johnson. Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. No partner or registration is necessary.

This is a smoke-free dance open to all ages.
