From Cindy Madsen for Port Townsend Victorian Heritage Festival:

Port Townsend will be hosting their 18th Annual Victorian Festival this upcoming Saturday, March 21-23.

Our press release is below...

However the important part is that Saturday night, the 22nd, we are Dancing!
From 7pm to 9pm, there will be a proper Victorian Ball, with Broken Dreams playing and Judy Rudolf calling.
The Ball will be followed by a Contra Dance from 9pm to 11pm.  Also Broken Dreams, called by Jeanie Murphy.

The price is $15 for the Ball and they are certainly welcome to stay on through the evening with no extra charge.  Or a $5 donation starting at 9pm.  Dress is as formal/informal as you wish.  The Ball allows those with Victorian ballgowns the opportunity to wear them.  The contra dance is completely casual.  But feel free to dress as you are comfortable - the important thing is to dance!
Since the dances will be called, all abilities are welcome.  There will be no alcohol in the Hall, so it is an all ages event.  The American Legion Hall, Port Townsend: corner of Monroe and Water Streets.

The 2014 Victorian Heritage Festival takes place March 21st - 23th, 2014.

When thinking of Port Townsend’s early days images of shipping and lumber, rough streets and genteel houses spring to mind, but the U.S. Army established Fort Townsend in 1856. The 18th Victorian Festival looks at how the military shaped culture during those volatile decades of expansion, civil war, and economic tumult.

Kick off Friday night with our Victorian Pub Crawl - featuring saloons, "shanghai tunnels," and fine vintage cocktails through a staggering selection of Port Townsend's (in)famous watering holes.

Saturday start off the day with a Parade, 10:30, downtown, with cavalry drills (yes, horses!) and walkers, both military and civilian. There will be demonstrations of manly arts, bicycles, corsets, and history, alongside old favorites like the fashion show, steam boat rides, prize fighters and Victorian teas. Cap the day with the Fashion Show, then attend the Victorian Ball at 7pm, and the Contra Dance at 9pm – all ages, bring your stompin’ boots.

Sunday we are offering a series of building tours, both uptown and downtown, and more teas.

See the website for details, schedules, prices, and to order tickets: www.VictorianFestival.org. Early-bird tickets now on sale.

The Victorian Heritage Festival is organized by Olympic Peninsula Steam with support from Victorian Society Northwest, and celebrates Port Townsend's unique role as an exquisitely preserved historical seaport surviving and thriving as a modern city.

Join us March 21-23, 2014 for a celebration of the old that is new again - bringing together scholars, enthusiasts and curiosity-seekers from across the Pacific Northwest
