Discovery Dance opens its 2017-2018 season with the Dan Colvin Band on Friday, September 15, at the Port Townsend Elks. The dancing begins at 8:00 p.m. following a free (with admission) dance lesson.

Dan "Big Hands" Colvin is the former frontman for the California-based Big Daddy's Rhythm Dan Colvin Bandand Blues Band and has played with or opened for musicians including Jesse Colin Young, Tom Scott, and Johhny Winter.  He has toured extensively with the Eric Ellsworth Band, Rock Steady Posse, and the Cardiff Reefers.  His style might be described as a little bit blues, a little bit country, a little bit soul.

Dan Colvin fronts the band with vocals, guitar, and sax.  He is accompanied by lead guitarist Jesse Savage from Gig Harbor, formerly with Big Daddy's Rhythm and Blues Band and Rokkerboxx, bassist Joshua Colvin, and Tom Svornich on drums.

Expect a dancing experience with original songs, a touch of honkytonk, and a whole lotta soul.

A free (with admission) lesson in Beginning West Coast Swing will be offered at 7:00 p.m. by professional dance instructor Janice Eklund. Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. Couples and singles are welcome. No partner or registration is necessary.

This is a smoke-free and scent-free dance open to all ages.

Admission: $12.
