Maia SantellThe swingin’, dynamic and versatile sounds of Maia Santell and House Blend have made them one of the most popular dance bands in the Northwest. Performing a mix of swing, blues, Latin, jazz standards, Motown, big band and contemporary favorites, the band accommodates a variety of styles, tempos and rhythms for the beginning dancer, the intermediate dancer and the professional dance coach. With Maia Santell on vocals, Al Alto on guitar, Ted Enderle on bass and Tim Malland on drums, they have been performing for twenty five years, at such leading venues and events as Jazz Alley, USA Ballroom Dances, Gray Sky Blues Festival, Studio 6 Ballroom, Educated Feet, Olympic Peninsula Dances, NW Dance Network, Sonny Newman’s Dance Hall and St. Michelle Wineries, to name few. Their musical repertoire is similar to the selections on the popular TV show, “Dancing with the Stars,” including songs made famous by Duke Ellington, Santana, Billie Holiday, Eric Clapton and Ray Charles, to name a few.

Vocalist and bandleader Maia Santell was raised in a prominent entertainment family of musicians that performed in the Northwest music scene for forty years. She is a descendant of Seattle’s Jackson Street era of jazz and swing. Her talent, phrasing, and clear, warm, unaffected vocal style can be attributed to her rich musical heritage, including attending Seattle’s Garfield High School, singing in jazz ensembles, musicals, blues bands and dance bands. At a young age Maia performed with jazz and swing giants like Joe Venuti and Floyd Standifer and as feature vocalist with The John Holte Radio Rhythm Orchestra and her uncle’s combo, The Frank Sugia Quartet.
