Discovery Dance welcomes Bainbridge Island's Gypsy Jazz virtuosos Ranger and the Re-Arrangers on Friday, November 18 at the Port Townsend Elks. The dancing begins at 8:00 p.m. following a free (with admission) dance lesson.

The definition of a working band, Ranger and the Re-Arrangers performs more than 100 times Ranger and the Re-Arrangersper year and has released 4 CDs. The band is composed of Ranger Sciacca (band leader and violinist), Dave Steward (mandolin, vocals), Mick Nicholson (bass), Jeffrey Moose (percussion), and Mike Sciacca (Ranger’s father and rhythm guitarist). Their upbeat, high energy swing will seduce dancers to the floor and keep them there with jazz, Latin, and swing standards in addition to traditional Gypsy melodies and Ranger’s originals.

As Alex Young says in Consequence of Sound, "(Ranger) plays it like the old kings of swing jazz did."

A free (with admission) lesson in east-coast swing and Foxtrot will offered at 7:00 p.m. by professional dance instructor Janice Eklund. Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. Couples and singles are welcome. No partner or registration is necessary.

This is a smoke-free and scent-free dance open to all ages.

Admission: $10.
