Quasimodo & the Bellringers return to The Upstage Friday, April first with their own brand of foolishness: poetic and musical takes on Les Miserables, 9/11, Bob Dylan and an unjustly maligned dwarf.

Quasimodo is Port Townsend’s irrepressible poet/playwright Sandy Diamond.

The Bellringers: Bruce Cowan whose guitar is both electrifying and tender; Bruce Cannavaro, the bass player’s bass player on keep-‘em-guessin’ piano; and on tenor sax, the distinguished wailing of Joy Qualey. They rock it with jazz, blues, Gershwin, gospel and Yiddish.

Scott Nolette on drums keeps the joint jumpin’. Along with songbird Heather Dudley Nolette, these two favorite PT actors flirt, impersonate, break our hearts and make us laugh our heads off.

Special guest Christine Hemp—2011 winner of Finishing Line Press’ New Women’s Voices Award—reads from her forthcoming chapbook That Fall.

She joins the band on her shimmering flute.

Born of a 1998 Centrum residency, Quasimodo & The Bellringers have played Bumbershoot twice, West Coast Live, Elliott Bay Books, the Blue Moon, etc.

The Upstage is home. Debuting at this performance is Sandy’s new hand-bound, limited edition poetry chapbook, Dostoyevsky’s Cat.

$10 cover includes the informative How-To poems.
