From Janice:

A warm hello to all the members of our Olympic Peninsula Dance Community,

Tuesday Night dance lessons will continue into the Fall at the Quimper Grange. We will continue with the current lineup of Salsa and NIghtclub Two Step. Dance is such a creative learning process for each individual…and we have to adjust to each partner. My agenda for this season is to share the similar elements between different dance forms. If you take both of these classes consecutively, you can practice the movements you learn in one class, and adjust them to fit the rhythm pattern of the next class. It increases your dance vocabulary quickly… and you learn this process early on. The Quimper Grange is located at 1219 Corona Street, Port Townsend, WA 98368. (corner of Corona and Sheridan)

Five Tuesdays: $50 per person/class, OCTOBER 28 - DECEMBER 2 (SKIPPING THANKSGIVING WEEK, NOVEMBER 25)

Repeat discount: $37.50

Drop-in $12 per class

NIGHTCLUB TWO STEP BEYOND BEGINNER

7:45 – 8:45

There are at least 4 versions of Nightclub Two Step, the modern version of Foxtrot. All the versions are wonderful…none is more “correct” than the others. Every dance form evolves with the creativity of the people who dance it. We will explore the original version, popularized by Buddy Schwimmer. It is the “Rock Step” version beginning with Quick, Quick, Slow. It is the same rhythm pattern as Salsa. So the movements you learn will translate between these dance forms with very little adjustment. This session we will learn some steps that will enable us to travel around the dance floor.

Nightclub Two Step is a very useful dance. It can be danced to slow, “oozy” romantic tunes, as well as more up-tempo funky tunes. If pressed, I would admit it is my favorite dance…but only by a hair.

I have observed lately, here in Port Townsend, that lots of dancers are versed in Swing and Waltz. But when Latin or various Foxtrot tempos are playing…they are uncertain as to how to dance to them. Here is a chance to fill that void. Please join us for the exploration.

In the New Year, I intend to begin teaching Waltz as one of the Tuesday classes. I am looking forward to that.

No partner necessary, everyone is welcome. Classes presented are a non-competitive, just for the fun of it exploration of dance. Good partnering skills will be emphasized during class.
