Sweet, sassy and satisfying dance music is on tap Friday, April 18 at the Port Townsend Elks with a visit from Tacoma's Maia Santell & House Blend. The dance, sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Dance, welcomes both singles and couples.

Maia SantellOn vocals, Santell's powerful voice -- compared to Bonnie Raitt -- is bold, playful and full of confidence. She's known as "an entertainer's entertainer," delivering songs with a style that's dynamic and full of musical joy.

Backing up Santell, House Blend's guitar, saxophone, bass and drums represent a who's who of Northwest jazz and blues royalty. These seasoned musicians appeal to all age audiences, and dancers are especially enthused by their mix of styles. For more than two decades Santell and House Blend have been favorites around the Pacific Northwest at nightclubs, casinos, festivals, dances, cruises, and special events.

The group performs a mix of jazz, blues, swing, Latin, rhythm and blues, big band hits and contemporary favorites, with a repertoire featuring the best in popular dance music from the 1940's through the 1990's. Maia Santell and House Blend's playlist reflects songs made famous by such artists as Duke Ellington, Etta James, B.B. King, Billie Holiday, Brooks and Dunn, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Santana, Linda Ronstadt, Billie Holiday, Eric Clapton, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Patsy Cline, Wilson Pickett, Fats Domino and Peggy Lee, to name a few. There will be a free (with admission) Foxtrot workshop with Carol Hathaway at 7:00 pm.  Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. No partner or registration is necessary.

Olympic Peninsula Dance presents the Kitsap band Malo Combo, playing acoustic latin and swing music on Friday, December 13 at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge.

The Malo Combo keeps hips swiveling on the Kitsap peninsula and in the South Puget Sound area with the intimate sounds of acoustic guitar and latin percussion.Malo Combo Friday night, December 13, Malo Castro will bring his congas, timbales and bongos north for a rare visit to Port Townsend adding rhythmic spice to the quintet's passionate music from Cuba and Puerto Rico. Malo's natural feel for rhythm and knowledge of dance translates directly to the dance floor and gets people moving.

There will be a free (with admission) dance lesson by Malo Castro in Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata at 7:00 pm.  Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. No partner or registration is necessary.

This is a smoke-free dance open to all ages.

A Country Waltz lesson begins at 7:00pm, followed by Nyby’s Band at 8:00pm. Both are open to the public

Robin Bessier and Sollatí Play for the Olympic Peninsula Dance Club at the Port Townsend Elks November 21st

The Olympic Peninsula Dance Club is thrilled to present Robin Bessier and her new band Sollatí (pronounced Soul La TEA) at the Port Townsend Elks on November 21st.  The dance starts at 8:00pm.

Sollatí is composed of Robin Bessier on vocals, Kurt Festinger on saxophone, clarinet & flute, George Radebaugh on piano, Ted Enderle on bass, and Kurt Bischoff on drums.  All are professional musicians who have played in bands across the Northwest and the country including Porto Allegre, Redshift, the "Other Side of Forever Band" backing Bessier on her CD of the same name, Pies on the Run, the Chuck Easton Quartet, Impulse, and Opus Fluke.  Enderle was princial bassist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Sollati

As Bessier says, "Sollati's repertoire has been customized specifically to create a perfect mix of dance tunes. From East Coast Swing to Night Club 2-Step, Foxtrot to Cha-Cha, Waltz to Salsa, East Coast Swing to an occasional Tango and Bossa thrown into the mix, Sollati' will get you up on the dance floor and keep your feet happy all night long.  ... Their mission in coming together and creating Sollati is to provide the best possible experience for dancers with a mix of swing, Latin, R&B, pop, and soul. Their growing repertoire spans generations of the best dance music, from the 1920s to current and original tunes, and everything in between. Sinatra to Stevie, the Duke to Marvin, Benny to Ray."
