Never danced country 2-step or feeling a little rusty? This class is designed to get you dancing 2-step from the ground up. We will cover foundational rhythm, connection, patterns, & technique.

11:00-12:00 Slick Country 2-step Patterns: (Beyond Beg./Int)

So, you’ve got some country 2-step basics under your belt and you’re looking for interesting variations to spice things up… This class will offer some practical and slick patterns to take your country 2-step to the next level.

12:00-1:00 Lunch Break -- No host

1:00-2:00 Fabulous WCS Whip Variations (Beyond Beg./Int.)

It’s time to turn your “vanilla” whip into something more sensational This class will provide you with variations to sass up your swing.

2:00-3:00 WCS Play & Styling: (Beyond Beg./Int.)

WCS is intended to be playful, creative and improvisational. This class will be less about patternsand more about providing you with fun ideas and techniques that will improve the aesthetic appearance of your dance and that will foster a playful connection with your partner.

Cost: $45 for whole day or $15/class, $25/2 Classes. Payment may be tendered by cash or check payable to Kathy Carter.

Kathy Carter has been sharing the joy and richness of dance with students in the Willamette Valley for over 13 years. Although she has handed off the torch, she also spent many years at Oregon State University developing the advanced WCS and advanced Country Western Dance program. She specializes in contemporary styles such as WCS, NC2S, Hustle, C2S, and Salsa. Kathy offers classes, workshops, and private lessons at RJ’s Dance Studio, Chemeketa Community College, The Ballroom Dance Company, and The Portland Swing Club.

Students appreciate Kathy’s fun-loving attitude, clear communication, and focused classes. Her talent is teaching social dance in a way that is accessible and grounded in solid technique.

The Delta Rays Play for the Olympic Peninsula Dance Club at the Port Townsend Elks January 16th

The Olympic Peninsula Dance Club presents the ever-danceable local legends The Delta Rays on January 16 at the Port Townsend Elks. The dancing begins at 8:00 p.m. following a free (with admission) dance lesson.

The Delta Rays have honed their original style over decades with the influences of rhythm andDelta Rays blues, Irish fiddle, swing, zydeco and rock and roll. Peter Evasick’s vocals, guitar and fiddle front the band with George Radebaugh on keyboards and accordion, Peter Bliven on drums and Hugh Starks on bass. Their mission is to keep you dancing to an energetic, delightful and rollicking beat.

A free (with admission) lesson in single-time swing will offered at 7:00 p.m. by local dance instructor Janice Eklund. Single-time swing is one of the simplest and most enduring dance steps, great for beginners. Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. Couples and singles are welcome. No partner or registration is necessary.

This is a smoke-free and scent-free dance open to all ages.

Admission: $10.
